Newmarket School’s tired classroom chairs were no longer fit-for-purpose, affecting student comfort and limiting how classrooms could be used.
Designed for a more traditional, static setup, the chairs didn’t support modern learning environments where students need to sit comfortably for long periods and move easily between activities. The school needed a practical seating solution that could better support today’s learners.
The Challenge
- The existing chairs were worn out and not suitable for prolonged sitting
- The school needed chairs in two sizes, with a specific height for junior students and light enough for students to move them physically around the classroom.
The Solution
OfficeMax Account Manager Leveaux Pohio engaged Interiors Specialist Craig Etwell to understand the school’s needs and identify suitable seating options.
Craig presented three options to the school’s Deputy Principal, Virginia Kung, and provided samples so the school could trial with students in their classrooms. Following student feedback, the school selected the Crayon Student Stacking Chair.
Craig recommended Crayon chairs as it addressed the school’s requirement for durability in busy, active classrooms. Key features include:
- Scratch-resistant surfaces support every day classroom wear and tear
- Curved seats are more comfortable for students to sit for extended periods
- Durable quality backed by a 10-year warranty
- Designed to support regular use in active learning environments
“Students love the Crayon chairs; they are easy to sit on, not wobbly, bouncy, rocking or tipping. They are sturdy and good for students’ backs.”

The Results
- Students reported improved comfort when using the new chairs throughout the school day
- The school was extremely pleased with how OfficeMax’s delivery partner removed all pallets, cardboard, and packaging
- As part of this project, Leveaux also reviewed the school’s procurement setup and identified savings opportunities through the All-of-Government (AoG) workplace and classroom furniture contract.
