Creating a purpose-built workspace for DIALOG Fitzroy

DIALOG Fitzroy Limited is a leading engineering, fabrication, and maintenance service provider across New Zealand and Australia, with over 65 years of industry experience.

The Challenge

DIALOG Fitzroy’s original workspace setup was far from ideal. With staff spread across five separate buildings, collaboration was tricky, communication was fragmented, and space was being used inefficiently. 

They relocated to a new building that could bring all teams together within one facility.

OfficeMax needed to:

  • Create a cohesive work environment that can accommodate different departments under one roof, catering to their unique functional needs
  • Provide thoughtful acoustic planning and custom furniture pieces, such as tailored storage and mapping tables, moving beyond off-the-shelf desks and chairs

The OfficeMax team collaborated seamlessly with other contractors to bring the fitout project together on time, made particularly challenging as the completion date was shortly after the Christmas holiday period.

The Solution

OfficeMax worked closely with Studio DB, experts in workplace design, to understand DIALOG Fitzroy’s specific departmental requirements. Instead of offering a one-size-fits-all furniture solution, we tailored recommendations to match the unique working styles of each team.

Our team provided furniture options that suited each zone’s purpose — whether it was quiet solo work, team meetings, or casual meetings in café-style spaces. We prioritised a balance between function, form and budget.

Strategic floor planning and smooth installation helped optimise each space for flow and functionality. It ensured every area supported how teams work best.

  • Functional, cohesive furniture for offices, meeting rooms, and the staff café
  • A focus on long-term usability, comfort, and cost-efficiency

Transitioning to our new open plan offices from old portacabin offices has brought all our people together under one roof, improving team collaboration and enhancing staff culture.
