Celebrate Matariki with these art activities

Matariki Korowai

Products Required:
  • Card/paper
  • Feathers
  • Paint
  • Pom Poms
  • Glitter
  • Glue
Steps to follow:
  • Cut feather shape out of card
  • Decorate shape with paint, glitter, pom poms and feathers
  • Stick all the finished feathers together to create a Korowai (cloak)
  • Display your beautiful Korowai in your classroom for Matariki!






 

Matariki Lanterns

Products required:
  • Card/Paper
  • Paint
  • Glitter
  • Glue


Steps to follow:
  • Fold a piece of paper/card in half
  • Cut slits along the folded edge of the paper to approximately 1" before the edge
  • Unfold the paper
  • Use paint and glitter to create Matariki designs and let dry
  • Tape the ends together to make a tube
  • Cut out a strip of paper and glue to the top of the tube to create a handle
  • Great to help celebrate Matariki in your classroom!
