EcoMax is our product range which has a lower environmental impact compared to alternatives, or that provide wider benefits for people and sustainable development. Our EcoMax range seeks to make shopping sustainably easier by allowing customers to sort by different and multiple sustainability criteria that meet their specific requirements.

OfficeMax works closely with our suppliers to verify and substantiate the claims made against each of our EcoMax products.

EcoMax Criteria

EcoMax products have been selected because they meet at least one of the following criteria. Look out for EcoMax Approved in the product filter options to help identify more sustainable alternatives.



20%+ Recycled Product Content

The product itself (excluding packaging) contains 20% or more recycled material.

Sustainably Sourced Product Packaging

100% of the product's primary packaging* is made from recycled or renewable material.

Recyclable Product

The product itself (excluding packaging) is made from 100% curb side recyclable material in New Zealand.

Recyclable Product Packaging

100% of the product’s primary packaging* is curb side recyclable in New Zealand.



Compostable Product

100% of the product (excluding packaging) is either commercially or home compostable in New Zealand and accredited to an international standard.

Product Carbon Certification

The product has a recognised third-party carbon certification.

Product Environmental Certification

The product has a recognised third-party environmental certification.

Social Good

Products from organisations that enable positive social or environmental impacts for their local community. Examples of social good includes but is not limited to NZ manufactured, social enterprise and Fairtrade.

*Primary packaging is the layer of packaging removed to access the product itself. For example the box that contains pens (the product).
