Got a brilliant business idea? OfficeMax is calling for final submissions for the ANZ Flying Start Business Plan Competition, a competition that puts New Zealand start-ups and small businesses in with a chance to win $45,000.

The competition, which is run by Business.govt.nz, is looking for a viable business idea that’s geared for growth and sustainable revenue as well as having the ability to make a positive contribution to the local, national or global economy.

The programme is now in its fourth year and since the beginning of the competition 2,000 entries have competed for over $200,000 in cash and prizes.

Managing Director for OfficeMax New Zealand, Kevin Obern, said that because of his previous experiences in small business, he is pleased that OfficeMax has signed on as a sponsor of such a worthy programme.

“I have run several small businesses in the past from the ground up and understand the pressures and responsibilities that they face,” Mr Obern said.

“It is so important to feel supported along the way and the Flying Start competition is a great initiative to help set businesses up for success.”

OfficeMax has also established a series of business resources and tools online at their new ‘BusinessCorner’ including health checks, interactive action plans and templates all designed to help small businesses succeed and grow.

Acting Manager of Business.govt.nz, Kim Truscott, said that as well as celebrating the winners, it is important to get businesses thinking about their plans for the future.

“The competition is not just about the prizes and recognition for the winners; it’s about getting businesses across New Zealand to take a proper look at their current business plan and assess where potential growth and opportunities can occur,” Mr Truscott said.

“We’ve kept the entry form simple and provided businesses with the tools to create the best possible plan for their ideas and aspirations.”

The business that submits the best and most innovative plan will win $45,000. Second and third prize winners receive $5,000 and 10 regional winners will get $1,000 each.
